Samuel W. Lewis was an orphan in Bozeman. Lewis was born in 1835 iin Haiti and shortly after he moved to Bozeman in maybe 1836 and then his mom died. His dad remarried a Chippewa woman, which then his dad had his half-sister Edmonia. After Lewis’ father died he then became a barber. In 1852 he moved to California and did some mining. And with money he earned he went to Europe. He retur4ned to America and continued to be a barber. He was black and about six feet tall and pretty rich if I must say. Lewis died at the age of 63 in 1869.
